I hope they don't go with the book stories at all for Episode VII. I know it will upset a bunch of book fans if they do this, but from what I've heard about the books that take place after Episode VI it is better they do not use them and start from scratch.
I agree with you, but I know that won't be popular with a lot of extended universe fans. The EU has always been considered cannon... unless contradicted by a film.
Yes, for example in one of the books it states that C-3PO is 100 years old when Luke met him. Now that the movie Episode I came out a while back, we know that he is not even half that age when Anakin builds him.
It's funny. With Star Trek, they basically said that NONE of the books are cannon. With Star Wars, the books are cannon by default, unless contradicted by a movie. It's a little frustrating when reading a book, wondering if something will be contradicted or not later. And honestly, I don't see them doing movies based on the books, so this will be very interesting. They could either respect the books and jump a few generations ahead, or just push ahead, invalidating the books.
Well, we just have to wait and see. I am sure that they can insert at least some EU material in this film. Also, since Lucasfilm is basically owned by Disney now and all that, I think it's more appropriate that Touchstone logo is there instead of the 20th Century Fox logo.
